Lil Ruf Peppy is truly a modern day sire that traces back to a legendary past. Bred and raised on the historic King Ranch, Lil Ruf Peppy was started by Gary Putman. When the handsome sorrel was a two year old, Tom McCutcheon tried him out. After loping the colt for five minutes, McCutcheon stepped off and said, "I'll take him." During his futurity year, Lil Ruf Peppy was 4th at the All American Congress Open Futurity with McCutcheon in the saddle. After a solid first round at the NRHA Futurity, the stallion stumbled and fell to his knees in the second go. That bad stroke of luck ended his futurity season, but Lil Ruf Peppy continued to turn heads. The following year, McCutcheon rode the stallion to the NRHA Open Derby Reserve Championship and the Limited Open Derby Championship. With his good looks, great breeding, and impressive physical talent, mare owners lined up to breed to Lil Ruf Peppy. The young stallion was retired to stud with earnings of nearly $30,000. |
